Retirement Calculator
Project how much you’ll have saved by retirement based on your current age, retirement age, current savings, monthly contribution and an assumed annual return. The model compounds interest monthly and shows your projected balance, total contributions, investment growth and a year-by-year growth chart so you can see the power of starting early.
How to use
- 1
Enter your current age
Your current age is the starting point. Combined with the retirement age, it determines the saving horizon in years.
- 2
Set your retirement age
The age at which you plan to stop contributing and start drawing down. Must be greater than your current age.
- 3
Enter savings & contributions
Type your current retirement savings and how much you add each month. Both update the projection live.
- 4
Pick a realistic return
A 6–8% annual return is a common long-term assumption for a balanced stock/bond portfolio. Adjust to match your asset allocation and risk tolerance.
Common use cases
- Stress-test whether you’re on track for a comfortable retirement.
- Compare starting at 25 vs 35 to see the cost of waiting.
- Work out the monthly contribution needed to hit a target balance.
- Model different return assumptions (conservative vs aggressive).
Limitations
- This calculator produces an estimate only and is not professional financial, tax or investment advice. Always confirm the underlying formulae with your accountant, bank or financial advisor before making decisions.
- The model assumes a constant annual return for the entire horizon. Real markets fluctuate year to year and may have multi-year drawdowns.
- Inflation, taxes on investment gains, fees, and salary growth are not modelled. The projected balance is a nominal figure — its real purchasing power will be lower.
- Contributions are assumed constant in nominal terms. In practice, you’ll likely increase contributions as your salary grows.
- The model does not account for Social Security, pensions, or other income sources in retirement — only your own savings and growth.
